CIRA HUB
Project no.2
The Hub is a LEED Silver certified 13,000 SF conference and event
center located on the 2nd floor of Philadelphia’s 28-story Cira Centre
office building, connected by pedestrian bridge to the 30th Street Station
transit hub. The facility provides clients with re-configurable meeting
spaces to support various functions, including training seminars,
lectures, videoconferencing, and hospitality events.
To accommodate this range of uses, the Hub’s design centers around
an infrastructure of flexibility: spaces incorporate operable partitions,
mobile furniture, networked multimedia systems, and highly adjustable,
user-centric lighting and environmental controls. Rooms are arrayed
around a wide central corridor and high-ceilinged event commons,
allowing various spatial and programmatic configurations.
The Hub’s material palette is similarly functional: silver metallic flooring;
tall, white walls and ceilings; translucent polycarbonate panels; birch
veneer doors and casework; and metallic fabrics and laminates act to
reflect and transmit light deep into the space from exterior glass curtain
walls. Aluminum-framed, laminated glass walls lining the corridor provide
spaces with borrowed daylight as well as acoustic privacy. The space’s
formal vocabulary of folded wall and ceiling planes complements the
building’s own dramatic, faceted geometry.
